WHAT IS WESTERN PODIATRIC SURGERY

Western Podiatric Surgery is a surgical group ran by specialist podiatric surgeon Dr Chris Pocklington that focuses on delivery foot and ankle surgical services to the Perth Metro and Peel Regions

WHERE IS WESTERN PODIATRIC SURGERY LOCATED?

Our clinics are situated within existing health and podiatry practices. We currently consult at three locations across Perth Metro and Peel

WHAT ARE THE CLINIC HOURS?

Dr Chris Pocklington (Podiatric Surgeon) generally takes appointments Tuesday – Friday from 8.00-5.00pm. He also offers an earlier clinic on Tuesdays and a late night clinic on Wednesdays at his Claremont location.

HOW DO I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT?

Appointments can be made online through our booking system. Visit the clinic that is most convenient for you. Alternatively appointments can be made direct through the podiatry clinics [see locations for more information]

HOW LONG CAN I EXPECT THE CONSULTATION WITH MY SURGEON TO TAKE?

We offer longer appointments that generally take 40 minutes to get a comprehensive understanding of your condition and talk about treatment options.

DO I NEED A REFERRAL TO SEE A SURGEON AT WESTERN PODIATRIC SURGERY?

You do not need a referral to see Dr Chris Pocklington (Podiatric Surgeon) or our team at Western Podiatric Surgery

ARE MY CONSULTATIONS COVERED BY MEDICARE AND/OR PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE

Our consultation fees are rebated by all major health funds under ancillary health cover and podiatric cover. Our consultation fees may be rebated by Medicare with an appropriate Team Care Arrangement referral. We also accept DVA and Workers Compensation.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO MY APPOINTMENT

Please remember to bring the following:

  • Your referring practitioner’s info
  • Your insurance information
  • Copies of operation records, medical records, x-rays, MRIs, blood results and CT scans from prior doctor visits
  • If you have seen a podiatrist, please bring any reports and/or orthoses
  • If you have seen a physiotherapist, please bring a progress letter
  • If you have had surgery elsewhere, please bring a copy of your operation report

DO I NEED A SEPARATE APPOINTMENT WITH YOUR ANAETHETIST

We work closely with our anaesthetist team at Perth Anaesthetic Group. For most surgeries a separate consultation with your anaesthetist will not be required. Your anaesthetist will make contact with your prior to surgery to address any questions relating to anaesthesia and your upcoming surgery booked.

WHERE DO YOU OPERATE

We operate at three hospitals throughout Perth. The Park Private Hospital, McCourt St Day Surgery and the University of Western Australia’s Podiatric Surgery Unit.

Most of our operations are performed at The Park Private Hospital. Your theatre location will depend on the type operation, type of anaesthesia, duration, and private health coverage.

HOW LONG WILL I BE IN HOSPITAL FOR

Most of our surgeries are ran as day-surgery. We generally advise 2 hours either side of your operation time. Patients are asked to come early to go through the necessary pre-operative checklist and are kept 2 hours post-operatively to be monitored before being discharged home.

For inpatients we generally advise an overnight stay to be discharged the next morning.

HOW LONG DOES SURGERY TAKE

Most of our procedures range from 30 minutes – 120 minutes.

WHERE WILL MY POSTOPERATIVE FOLLOW UP BE

Your surgeons will try to see you at the most convenient location, generally where you were consulted pre-operatively.

Your surgeon will see to your postoperative phase at one, two and four weeks generally.

WILL PHYSICAL THERAPY BE REQUIRED AFTER MY SURGERY

Some procedures may require postoperative rehab to be commenced. Your surgeon will discuss if this is required on a case-by-case.

Where your surgeon requires more therapy a referral to our sports podiatrist, rehab physiotherapist or exercise rehab team may be required to maximise your recovery.
